THE YEAR OF OUR LORD, 2014: Dele Alabi

Read Time:46 Second

She was ushered in amid shouts, scream and bonfire
Family dancing in their new attire
Promising a journey of despair
Though we hope for unlimited funfair

As 2014 comes, the older years fade
The moments we had, those we wish we had
Yester years fade into shallow box of memory
To be retrieved, cherished and let go

The friends we lost, the strangers we saw
The battles we lost, the wars we won
We hug the world until it wounds,
We curse it and then sigh for wings.

We know we dream, we dream we know.
We rise up laughing with the light,
We lie down weeping with the night.
We live, we love, we woo, we wed,

We wreathe our prides, we sheet our dead.
We laugh, we weep, we hope, we fear,
We’re grateful we saw it all
And that’s the burden of voyage
The year of our lord, 2014
