XV
There is no water to drink here,
Here, only tears;
This is a barren wasteland where
Grief rules – and fears.
There is but little to chew here,
– Hunger, one hears;
Only a single source of cheer
– The fruits love bears.
XVIII
Grenades may grant an army full
Dominion o’er the earth;
The pen may rule the mind of man,
But love subdues the heart.
Conquest may offer wealth or sway
To the strong or the knave;
In books one often finds a way,
But only love can save.
