SANS SERIF (on priding self)

Why carve me thus –
Sans-serif lettering,
Unadorned?
Now I receive the spittle
Of mocking lips!

Why was I made
On a day of single hue,
When the rainbow
Denied the sky
Of Her color pots?

See,
A colored cursiva here
And there,
The serif of another
Leans over to mock me!

Oh Carver divine
Shall you not bring
Chisel and pallet
That I may be the envy
Of painted cursivas?
