Shall the thieving locusts be allowed
to loot posterity’s treasures while we watch –
as mute as shadows?
Or the longings of hungering men
Fed with the hymen of babes?
As skewed eyes hold gaze with clouds?
Shall her innocence
Be merchandised at matrimonial markets?
That our purses may be o’er flow with gems?
Or the lips of witless foxes
Be allowed to nibble the tender grapes
Of her yet budding breasts?
Say no to child marriages!
