In this public pit of the homeless
Where the sun shines to scorn and bring tears
In this dungeon of the helpless
Where the moon unfolds to bring fear
In this pit, land of caves, mountains and hills
Where hunger tells the tale of poverty
To suppress us into the tears of unrewarded labour
As bondsmen, even in our own territory
In this pit of war of segregation
We often heard words untold
Of many lives sold for silver and gold
Were we wise not to stand bold?
Behind the hills and mountains, in this pit of slavery
We lay apart to hang our heads
With no courage to climb to the mountain top
Where hope lies…
Need be it…
I shall go on to the hilltop
I shall climb the mountain of hope with no rope
I shall summon courage to cross the sea and ocean
I shall fight the storm to defend my island
I will not lose hope until I gain unity
For this, I am prepared to die!
