Blades clinging and shields clashing
Bones breaking and soldiers stabbing
Yet you prattle like a rattle
While others labor and battle.
Faces burnt by the sun’s scorching
And palms torn from long swords clutching
Yet you prattle like a rattle
While corpses burn as the fires crackle.
Women worn from crying
Girls worn from raping
And yet you prattle like a rattle
While girls are carted away like chattels.
Children, the natural course of growth defying
And infants from kwashiokor dying
Yet you prattle like a rattle
While men are slain like cattle.
Bombings and shootings and killings
Mass graves and streets keep filling
Yet you prattle like a rattle
While families lose their all in battles.
The victims you keep consoling
And the insurgents keep seizing and occupying
Yet you prattle like a rattle
And on the media tattle.
Soon your fortress they’ll come seizing
And on your guarded courts they’ll come looting
Even while you yet prattle
You’ll get swallowed by this battle.
