Words Rhymes & Rhythm

ONE NIGERIA by Victor Igiri

Read Time:1 Minute, 12 Second

(written in absolute dislike for Nigeria’s splitting…)

Paint me White, not RED;
Green, I beseech thee still
and entomb every dark desires that
kings your soul.
Paint me Green, not Black
so I can war with strength
these old-new foes
that crushes greenness.
War?
…and laborious a starless Yesterday we beheld:
intercoursing discordant vibes at the start of things
that paved smooth paths
for black days, and nights, crimsonly ‘red.
silence lived large; Yes,
fear and misery our lot,
empty streets we dwelled,
gunny Dirty air we fret,
chaos…
blood,
destruction,
kwashiorkor,
deaths…
carcasses…
vultures…
woes and shattered dreams
till today pants us –
Our green dark earth!
And long after, the casualties are not only
the bones in the coffin, but all who breaths
the Giant’s air to the newest of generation’s;
perhaps, more to come I pray not
Yet I behold us,
like sixty-sevens eve and before,
snaily, slowly and rapidly chanting diVORCE
when true sons and daughters She seeks;
Divorce?

Peace, not war
for sharing brotherhood from another mother;
Biafra or Arewa who shall laugh in strife?
Love, not hate
for by its fruits can this war be won
that jails our flowering.
Nigeria for ALL,
oneness for everyONE;
TRIBEless a people
who at every tick-tock desires mating with
our sweet old Queen of ethereal splendor
and resurrects her from shatters
…and I wish we can lend Peace a voice!
I wish we are White.
