My friend died. Today he is earthed
This news turns my marrow to water
That now flow down my cheek
Flood waters raging through a city
Thoughts pierce my mind
Like heated Indian arrows;
…
Yes, he was sick
Got admitted into a sick hospital
With sick doctors that care less
So alone he battled Death…
The gloom wasn’t lifting
Alas, the sun was setting!
Then his breath came fast
Faster, then faster… and even faster
Like it was racing for a medal
Against the tick-tock of the clock…
0330hrs…05-03-13
His breathing stopped..
His eyes are half open
His lips are parted, open
And my friend is gone
…the sick doctors appear…
…
We are left with deafening silence!
Ah! His talents came to light
Just before this sudden flight!
The world has lost a mind bright
Rest in peace Victor Okolie…
*Victor Okolie was a childhood friend. He is a trained Economist from Enugu State University, Enugu, Nigeria.

I’m sorry for your loss. Hard to lost a good friends. A powerful poem. Words can keep old friends alive in heart and mind.
Indeed they can…this man sadly lost his friend to incompetence and inadequacy of medical facilities.
