Read Time:42 Second
I am the back
That received those stripes
From the cage for freedom:
To you, I come, Africa!
To you, I come, Mother in the sun!
With striated shadows of grief,
Barefooted,
Like ugoni village priest:
I bare no teeth in laughter.
I only bawl for my sorrowed life.
But, when you welcome
My sore embrace,
Mind not my broken body:
They are sacrifices
For being black.
If only you would awaken
From the slumbers of yesterday,
If only you could live beyond these scars:
The Moon’s scar, is still his star.
The rapt attention of the traveler is not distracted,
For he knows
he who is still on his way
Has not arrived yet.
