The clock’s fingers show the night has been halved
Alas, sleep has eluded me once again
as has become his practise of late
I peer through emptiness, seeing nothing
testament to my weakness against nature

Beside me is the one, my light
but also the cause of my predicament
I wished not for her to walk the streets
except to preen like the peacock, displaying
colourful feathers that hail The Maker
never to till but to be toiled for

to encapsulate her in the cocoon
of that which she has abundantly given, I swore
to buy her all. But they remained words for too long
and now sound like an over repeated fable
The road to the means ever look so gloomy

To the men who claim God:
“weeping may endure the night, joy comes at dawn”
Yet many mornings have I seen with no joy
The crystal ball enthused:
“your stars are bright and rich. Patience!”

Rams my ancestors demand that enquiries be made
No means! Even if there was, my shepherd frowns
My beloved, when will the sun on our love rise?
When shall I beam with smiles?
When will my beloved be re-assembled?
