If I wasn’t here
Perchance I’d be an angel
Looking downward with a pristine stare
Ostensibly, intimately with Gabriel
If I wasn’t here
I would feel no pain
I would breathe sans fear
And fly nude with no shame.
If I wasn’t here
I won’t need a hoe
Nor work my shoulder
To put grains in my bowl
If I wasn’t here
I won’t have any foe
Waiting in repose to fleer
When I hit a stone with my toe
If I wasn’t here
I would ne’er shed tears
Neither would a dirge pass by my ear
I’ll walk the night with no fear.
If I wasn’t here
The sun ne’er will burn my skin
Nor the rain fall on my hair
No cold will be felt within
If I wasn’t here
I would never die
I won’t have a body you can spear
No hands but wings to fly
If I wasn’t here
I would be an angel
Up high swerving in the sky
I might e’en be an archangel
