Dear Dream, do not dare to die
You in whom my hopes and aspirations lie
Terrific wings on whose span I fly
If you forsake me now, next I’ll fall off the sky
Dear Dream, do not dare to die today
Not today! Say bluntly to death, “not any day!”
While the sun still shines help me make hay
Bring not weary night into my sunny day
Dear Dream, if today you die and thwart my scope
Should I, in weariness and woe, settle to cope?
Nay but for death’s grip I’ll relentlessly grope
And paddle on life’s stream with shattered hope
Dear Dream, if today you die, you gamble my breath
Making me an irresistible meal to death
Helpless my body will return to origin, earth
To doomed eternal rest, six feet beneath.
