 Ring out wild bells,
And sound your furious clanging!
That is the reason you are in the tower hanging!
Once you sounded to call the people to prayer,
And at your summons all were gathered there,
Your peals heralded the start of married life,
Quiet knells marked the end of faithful life.
Angelus changed to Regina Coeli at the end of Lent,
Regular tolls marked how the day was spent
In six hour increments
From dawn until the dusk of twilight,
Forbearing to ring the hours of the night,
Now electronic ring sounds but a broken knell,
No clang will sound to awaken those in Hell,
No Alleluia sound to shatter rocks
No Great Amen to open up the graves,..
Modern noise the voice of angels block,
Muffled towers don’t shout Jesus saves…

(Our church bell has been replaced by an electronic ringer, phony as a three dollar bill. It’s like canned muezzins. The ropes have been cut, and the tower entrance blocked.)
