Underneath the sky I sat
Awaiting the wheels trekking from Zaria
The sun shone with bizarre intensity
Upon the frames of my heart,
As I waited patiently to reach the streams of the sky

Walking on this noisy town
With loads of frown
The roads wear sunshades
To cover the hopes of the cloud
Helpless stiffs lay on a load
Pleading for alms from the wind

Traders with all manners of goods
call on happy travellers seeking patronage
Drivers and conductors scream hell on the thronged road
calling on frowning spectators
Purveyors exchanged their burdens for money
And beggars dust poverty from tattered clothes

The sun wipes away my sweat
And the roads show me cruel comfort
In the tight corner where I sit
I hear voices swirling in my head
Bemused
Not cowed in my heart

I smile
Watching a mad smoker, dedicate
The coming of another night
As I pleaded with the sun
To pay adulation
To the waiting west…
