In time past,
he that is you
inspired awe.
He that is called
by your name
exuded charm
with dignified grace

Once! Yes, once
you flocked and perched
in courts with the nobs
and in the hearts of the commoner
had your name in gold.

A radiant light,
you drew a swarm
to bask in serene calm
of knowledge’s nest
where, with words
and chalky hands,
you weaved great minds
out of the voids of infancy.

Once! Yes, once
you were the dream
but not anymore.
Now you are dead
even in the dreams
of the seraphic minds
you so tenderly tend.

Once you were the dream.
Not any more.
Now in shame you stand
a relic from the glorious past.
