FEAST OF WORDS (FOW), the annual Words Rhymes and Rhythm (WRR) Publishers’ literary festival, will hold at Ado Awaye Suspended Lake, Iseyin, Oyo State on Saturday, 7th of December 2019. It is the fifth edition of the festival which attracts literary enthusiasts from all over Nigeria.
Established in 2015, FEAST OF WORDS is one of Nigeria’s most anticipated literary festivals, especially among the younger generation of writers. The one-day, non-ticketed literary festival features discussion panels, award presentations, readings, musical, spoken-word and drama performances, dance and sampling of local delicacies – this year it will include a hike up the Ado Awaye mountain and its lake, the only recognized suspended lake in Africa”.
WRR Publishers CEO, Kukogho Iruesiri Samson, said this year’s venue was selected to tap into nature’s power to stimulate creativity and make the festival a picnic where everyone can enjoy literature while syncing with nature and bonding with others.
“Because nature and creativity are connected, we believe exposing writers to a natural and surreal environment like Ado-Awaye will definitely inspire them,” Kukogho said.
“Feast of Words as a festival has always been about connecting writers, especially the young ones who are limited in their exposure and access to opportunities, in a fun atmosphere. This year the fun will be combined with physical health as they hike and savour the wonders of Ado Awaye Lake.”
The Festival Director, Kolade Olanrewaju Freedom, who is also the company’s Chief Operating Officer, added that the festival presents an opportunity for interaction and networking amongst young writers all over the country.
He, however, advised would-be participants to come ready to be challenged as the climb up the mountain is “not for the fainthearted”.
Eighty-one young Nigerian writers – winners of the monthly Brigitte poison Poetry Contest (BPPC) 2019, the annual Nigerian Teachers Award (WRR-NTA), as well as annual Albert Jungers Poetry Prize – will be honoured at the festival. They will receive various prizes in the form of books, cash and certificates.
The anthology of the eighty winning entries of the BPPC will also be distributed free of charge to everyone in attendance. In addition, there will also be lots of free books and food.
