The highly anticipated shortlist for the 2024 Eriata Oribhabor Poetry Prize (EOPP) is here! Following a rigorous review, ten exceptional poems have been selected from a strong field of entries, demonstrating the depth and diversity of contemporary Nigerian poetry.
Established in 2012, the EOPP is an annual prize dedicated to promoting Nigerian poetry and celebrating literary excellence, nation-building, and patriotism. As with past editions, EOPP 2024 sought poems that engage with social realities, offer critical reflections on governance, and inspire positive change. The quality of submissions received underscores Nigeria’s vibrant literary culture and the power of poetry as a tool for advocacy.

These shortlisted poets have showcased remarkable craftsmanship, exploring themes of identity, history, resilience, and national consciousness with compelling imagery and evocative language.
Winners will be announced in two weeks, with cash prizes (₦50,000, ₦30,000, ₦20,000) for the top three poems. The 2024 EOPP anthology will feature the top 20 entries.
