I came across ‘APPARITION’, a beautiful collection of poems by SEUN G. FABAYO, during one of my searches for books by Nigerian writers.
Seun is definitely creative and special. His work is the first of its kind that I and reading from a young, 21st century African writer. As an African, I was initially surprised by his style of writing and his choice of words.
His diction can be compared to the likes of Wilfred Owen, and, in a way, the famous Williams Shakespeare.
APPARITION is in a class of its own. It is compelling in a strange way and strange in a compelling way. It opens a whole new perspective to this thing called life.
What I enjoyed the most about it is his word coinages and use of symbolism, in a creative attempt at conveying meanings to his audience.
I must however say this book requires patience (and a dictionary) if it must be understood. I am more likely to recommend it to poets, especially those familiar with traditional poetry.
